Mix two parts to one and wash the whole of the skin. The violet cools the shadows without greying them.

Back over everything but the recesses, leaving the cool wash in the eye sockets, under the cheekbones and in the creases.

    Glaze

Thinned well with water or medium, a glaze or two on the cheeks, the tip of the nose, the ears and the lips. Build it up slowly: it should read as a flush, not paint.

    Highlight

Fine highlights on the brow, the bridge of the nose, the cheekbones and the chin. Its slight grey keeps the skin cool.
